You held the white pass in your hand, peering around the corner. There he was, punctual as always, sitting straight up with his hands folded in his lap. He was perfect, you thought, admiring how polite he looked even while waiting for you – late for his tutoring session.

You took a deep breath and wiped your face again, making sure you'd cleaned it thoroughly to look your best, and stepped into the small, gray tutoring room. He turned to face you slowly but you could almost hear the anticipation flowing off him in waves. Whether he was actually angry or just a bit antsy waiting for you was up for grabs.

He stood and gave a slight bow, as he usually did when someone entered the room. "Hello, _______-san." He addressed you by your last name. He still had that accent from when he first arrived from Japan, but you could tell the way he said his "l's" that it was steadily disappearing.

"Good Afternoon, Kiku." You looked for a reaction and saw he was probably stifling one, trying to stare blankly at you. "_______-san, it is imperative that you use your best Japanese today. Please, address me as Honda-san." You blinked and nodded. "Eh, alright, Honda-san."

You took the seat across the spotty gray table and looked at the small pile of papers, neatly organized and sorted by alphabet in front of him. You'd been really late, and for what? All that time trying to look pretty, and your classmate planned on actually working.

"What would you like to review first?" You noticed the lack of eye contact he gave you, sometimes meeting eyes for mere seconds before looking down at the papers your regular Japanese teacher usually gave out. You felt bad for Kiku, he seemed uncomfortable enough in the class, being the only fluent Japanese speaker in the class. Because of that, he was the first candidate to tutor you, the one who was about to flunk.

"How about culture? You know, customs and the like." Across the table, Kiku met eyes with you and nodded, flicking the papers to find the start of the 'C' section, for custom and culture. That would be pretty easy, right?

"Okay, _______-san, can you remember any greetings?" You nodded quickly, smiling. "Ohayou, Konnichiwa, Konbanwa. That's..." He fumbled for the meanings for a moment. "Good morning, Good afternoon, Good evening." Kiku scrawled a check next to the first item on the page.

You spent the next five minutes going over simple things. Hello, goodbye, how are you? Very normal things, a quick conversation in Japanese between you two. He nodded you encouragingly, checking off more and more items until you reached a page about public customs and groaned inwardly.

"I need help with that." You pointed to the page immediately. Your Japanese classmate nodded and pushed the paper toward you. "Now, _______-san, in Japan, it is rare that families will show affection for each other, such as kissing or hugging. In fact, many children, such as myself, have never seen their parents kiss. As opposed to here...." He trailed off, leaving you a moment to take that it.

"Okay. What else is on that paper? That can't just be it." You looked down at the sheet in front of you, it was accompanied with a few pictures of families and teenagers in public places, such as parks. But the text still took over the page anyway. "Well," He pointed to the second item on the list. "couples in Japan do not often kiss, hug, or hold hands in public, as it is considered rude." You nodded, tapping your chin with your own pencil. "So, is this like the whole 'PDA' rule we have here at school?" Kiku nodded. "Precisely. Very good."

He continued, explaining how affection was starting to be shown more often nowadays. When he finished he took your completed papers and nodded politely. "Very good today, ______-san. I will make sure our sensei hears about this." He fumbled in his pocket for his keys presumably when he stood up.

"Tell me, Honda-san. You said that schools in Japan didn't allow public displays of affection, like this one here, right?" You met eyes with him and he looked away hurriedly. He wasn't playing hard-to-get, and he wasn't even trying to hide his affection. It was customary not to stare, so maybe he felt staring was making eye contact with you.

"Hai." He said quietly. You came around the table and kissed his cheek. "So, this isn't allowed, is it?" He was trying to move but you'd grabbed his shoulder and pulled him over again, spotting a kiss on his cheek once again. "P-Please, _________-san, I don't want you to get into trouble." You could tell he was holding back emotion, another customary thing you assumed.

He tried stepping away again, this time backwards. He didn't see it coming when you twisted and grabbed his other shoulder as well, meeting lips with him. You could feel his arms shaking through his jacket until he reached up and grabbed your shoulder, pushing you away hastily but still keeping you at arms length, gripping your shoulders firmly.

"_______.You can't just d-do thing like that when we're at school! It's very r-rude, I'm sure. If anyone saw that-" He was cut off by you stealing another kiss, leaving not only him surprised but you. For one, he addressed you by your first name and without the honorific. And now he had your shoulders, not exactly trying to free himself. It was an innocent kiss, like two young kids who liked each other. Nothing that even resembled a make-out session, just two people trying to be as close as possible to each other.

You reached down into his pocket and extracted his keys. As you pulled away, and even before that, you smiled. "If you take me home, we won't be at school."
The Reader's a bit straight-forward in this, wouldn't you agree?

More mushy stuff! :iconkermityayplz:

Again, try to ignore spelling errors. And Japanese errors. I'm not a Japanese student at all - all I understand is what I pick up from Vocaloid. :iconotlplz:

Same for "customs" and "rules" of showing affection. Gathering from the world wide web~
