Disclaimer: I don't own Hetalia and certainly not England or Hong Kong! I don't own you either, but I suppose that should go without saying. =7=

You were a new country. Just barely scraping the bottom of the barrel in order to fund yourself and your small population, you were just starting to get the ball rolling and try to make a name for yourself.

When you checked the mail one morning, you didn't expect to see it. An envelope that was inviting you to join all these big shot older countries! You did a silent cheer that morning, you were getting recognized.

It wasn't until after the meeting that it got interesting. They rarely asked your opinion on things, especially when it was that one man, America, talking, which was the majority of the time. Surprisingly, as you collected your manila envelope and packets of paper you received at the start of the meeting concerning world issues, you were confronted by a blonde man with peculiarly thick eyebrows.

"Hello, ________." He pronounced your country name with a British accent, which already gave away who he was. This was obviously the one everyone called England, the sole representative at the meeting for the United Kingdom. He extended his hand and you took it gratefully, at least someone noticed you.

"Good  Afternoon, England." Sure, it was definitely starting to darken out the large windows surrounding the room, but the meaning was the same. He smiled and nodded to himself. "I understand you're a new country, is that right?"

"Yes, that would be the case. I was really excited about coming to this meeting, it's great being a recognized country." The older country rubbed the back of his neck and bit his lip, looking nervous all of a sudden. "Recognized, how funny..." He trailed off but returned back to the sentence quickly. "Say, you haven't seen a young blonde boy walking around, have you?"

You shook your head and he sighed, obviously relieved about something. "Anyway, as I was saying," He coughed into his hand and smiled politely. "I would like to help you, _______." He came upon that subject so bluntly that it was almost uncharacteristic of the kind man.

"Who says I needed help? I'm perfectly fine, actually! There's no help to be needed here!" You stepped back a bit defensively, and the British man's smile wavered from polite to almost piteous. "There's no need to be ashamed, _______. We all have our problems, especially when we're just starting out." His eyes flickered to the side to America, chatting away with somebody you hadn't recognized from the meeting.

"I would like to offer you a small sum of money," He began, opening his own envelope. "I'll support and sponsor you every step of the way, provide you when you need it. However, if I were ever in need of help...." He produced a check with a rather large sum of money, but when he looked up from the folder, his smile turned blank.

"________ declines your offer generously." You turned to face the source of England's frown. You'd seen him sitting next to China, knees hugged up to his chest, sketching something. He had shorter dark hair than the Chinese man but they dressed alike and were almost identical.

"Hong Kong, this is none of your business. _________ and I are talking about a serious political issue. Please, I think China is ready to leave." Chine was by the door, yelling something at the one they called Russia about something that sounded like stalking.

But Hong Kong refused, hiking his sketch book higher under his arm. "Whatever you're talking about, I feel as though I should be included. If it is so serious and political, it would be fine to say it around me. We are at a world meeting." He narrowed his eyes. Despite being Chinese, when he spoke English he had a peculiarly British accent. What did you know about Hong Kong's history? You couldn't remember a thing.

Before you could react, he grabbed your wrist and pulled lightly. It managed to be strong enough, however, to knock you off balance. You found yourself unwillingly being tugged along by him, out the doorway that China stood next to.

"Hong Kong, what are you doing? Hong Kong!" England started following, trying to remain cool, but his furrowed brows and stomping made it hard to see him as anything but annoyed. When you brushed through the doorway China turned away from Russia too, starting a hearty scolding in Chinese at England before realizing what was happening.

When you two reached the hallway, he began to sprint and tightened his grip on your wrist. You had difficulty keeping up but felt like if you let go you'd miss something – or crash into a wall.

When he hurried through the door you swore you saw a smile smile flash on his face. The rain that was falling when you'd arrived had stopped, leaving a sun falling beyond the horizon and a dusky landscape. He let go of you wrist and turned to you.

"I am sorry. I understand if you are angry, but I had to lure them out here somehow." You blinked, confused. He saw it and nodded. "I haven't been able to a proper introduction. I am Hong Kong, and you are _______." He nodded as if reassuring himself and pointed to a stack of crates. "Now, _______, will you please crawl behind that box?"

You turned back and looked at the damp wood. "No, why would I?" Inside the hallway you could hear frantic shouting. China was starting to transition into English to match England. Their footsteps were getting louder. "We are running out of time, please hurry." He moved quickly and managed to push you   up onto the crate, practically jumping on top of you.

You were lucky it was dark, blushing hard as he maneuvered about you until he'd crawled to box next to you, a full four feet above you. In this light, he looked less like a country-napper and more like a teenager. It was, from your crate, you could see them. Four tiny little rockets aimed at the doorway. Hong Kong picked up the gadget that would activate the rockets, and turned to you. "Feel free to watch, _______. You are the reason this will work anyway." Your outfit was damp now, and you swore mold was creeping on the fabric, but you didn't care. Something told you it would be fun to watch, so you looked over the box cautiously.

The door slammed open and China and England looked around furiously. "Kaoru Wang!" They both yelled, panting. They were slumped over, probably from being rather old as well as doing all that furious running. Next to you, Hong Kong pressed the button and the rockets burned to their targets – the two older countries looking for him.

You couldn't help but laugh at them when the rockets suddenly burst into sparks in front of them. They were flailing around until they'd collapsed into each other, yelling and slapping at the air even when they hit the ground. Hong Kong snickered, jumping back to the box where you sat, admiring his work.

A smile pulled at the corners of his mouth, but he refused to let his expression change from the blank stare he always seemed to don. "Could I tell you something, ______?" He touched your shoulder and you stopped laughing upon hearing his voice. "I feel as though I need to get something off my chest, and since you have aided me in my quest I will share with you."

He started fumbling with the front of his jacket, and for a moment you thought he would take it off. Instead he looked up, unreadable as ever, and spoke. "This happens at every world meeting I go to." He began quietly.

"It has always been my goal to find a way to bring my fathers together again." The way he said "fathers" almost made you cringe. He sounded so innocent and sad, like a child at a funeral. "But they refuse to even speak to each other unless I am around. They constantly fight and argue all the time, but the minute I join them they try and act like they can stand each other." He pulled at his hair, sighing. "I wish they would just shut up. I've never really been the center of attention. But maybe, now that Japan and America are grown up, if they got together, they would praise me."

You acted almost on instinct, leaning forward and hugging him. You did know that, at some point, America was an English colony, and that China and Japan had relations in a similar sense. Hong Kong was always being over shadowed by someone. He didn't move but you could feel the heat crawling up his face.

"Please, do not pity me. I understand my place in China's home, and if I could, I would choose to become independent." You could hear England cursing while trying to get up. They would soon come back to find China and you, the new country, with a  bad reputation to go with it, possibly.

"When you decide to make that step, if you do, I'll be here for you." You leaned out of the hug and released Hong Kong. He gave you a genuine smile, one similar to England's but still original in its own way. It was a Hong Kong smile, and it was warm enough to keep your entire country heated for all of winter.

"Aha! Kaoru, march. Now." Just in front of the box,  you heard England sternly call Hong Kong by his real name. The smile ended abruptly and he nodded. "Thank you." He whispered, disappearing around the side of the box.

You sat quietly, hugging yourself, feeling very lonely all of a sudden. There was a lot of scolding going on the other side of you, in both Chinese and English. Hong Kong answered in a monotonous, quiet voice to both in the respective tongue before you heard him and, presumably China, leave.

When you crawled out from behind the box, England looked absolutely embarrassed. "I'm so sorry, ________!" He hurried over, starting to take off his jacket and give it to you. "Hong Kong is a troublesome nipper." You nod and smile. "It's alright, England. He's a nice boy."

"Now," England began after handing you his jacket, "about my offer to you. What do you say?"You looked at the ground. Hong Kong suddenly appeared in your mind, talking about his family. You look up and smile sadly.

"I'm sorry, England. Your offer is very generous, but I'm afraid I must decline. I don't think I could face having to make up for so much money." The other country nodded. "I suppose it's understandable." You could see something flicker in his eyes. He knew Hong Kong was behind this, somehow, but refused to mention it.

This is my first reader insert! I chose Hong Kong because......he's adorable! And people tend to forget about him since he doesn't play a big part in the comics or the Anime. This just depicts my headcanon and what-not for him.

Also: my computer refuses to accept that 'Hong' is part of Hong Kong, so if there are any mistakes (such as "Honk" Kong), try to ignore them. My computer tends to be unreliable like that.
